Anwar ditahan reman

Belum pasti utk berapa lama…

Alangkah buruknya cara tangkapan Anwar tengahari tadi.

Bilakah akan berakhir segala kepandiran ini? Dan berhentinya wenangan mereka yang berkuasa?

Hanya masa akan menentukannya. Sehingga itu, perjuangan ini belum selesai.

Jika patah tumbuh, jika hilang diganti ribuan yang lain.

Membujur lalu melintang patah.

Lawan, tetap lawan.

Anwar Ibrahim: Kenyataan Media

Anwar Ibrahim The Voice of Democracy in Malaysia

—- PRESS STATEMENT – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE —
KUALA LUMPUR, July 16, 2008 3:30 PM

This afternoon at 1:05 PM Anwar Ibrahim,

former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, was arrested

outside of his home in Kuala Lumpur. He was due to issue

a statement at IPK KL (Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters)

at 2:00 PM based on an agreement reached with the police on Tuesday.

Anwar Ibrahim was returning from the Anti Corruption Agency

to his home after giving a statement pertaining to the

police report that has been filed regarding suppression

of material facts in the case involving him in 1998.

He was accompanied by his senior legal team, staff, and security.

As he entered the neighborhood of his home,

a contingent of ten police cars, half unmarked and half patrol,

forced the two cars in Anwar Ibrahim’s entourage to stop.

There was a contingent of 20 balaklava-clad masked

commandos (UTK) who accosted him, reminiscent

of the forces sent to arrest Anwar Ibrahim at his home

in September 1998.

An officer approached Anwar Ibrahim and demanded

that he accompany the police in an unmarked vehicle

to the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters.

His lawyers were not permitted to travel with him to the police station.

This arrest has taken place less than fifteen hours after

Anwar Ibrahim appeared live on Malaysian television

for the first time since 1998, and announced to millions

of viewers his intention to stand for election, and upon

the formation of a new government, to lower the

domestic price of fuel by 50 sen.  The overwhelming majority

of Malaysians expressed their support of his televised statement.

These events are deeply disturbing to us and indicate

that this entire episode is a repeat of the actions taken

against Anwar Ibrahim in 1998.   During the last few weeks

the government owned mainstream media has demonized

and vilified him.  His staff has been harassed and we see

a conspiracy being hatched to thwart the political change

that is imminent in Malaysia.

Under no circumstances will the people of Malaysia and

the international community tolerate any harm coming to

Anwar Ibrahim. We remind Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi

of the promise he made to ensure Anwar Ibrahim’s protection.

We have been able to communicate with Anwar Ibrahim,

who calls upon his supporters and the people of Malaysia

to remain calm and to reject any attempts at provocation,

which will give a pretext for an emergency situation to be declared.

Poll: And the winner of the debate is…

Jul 16, 08 12:40pm
Opposition stalwart Anwar Ibrahim is the winner of yesterday’s on the fuel price hike, according to a poll conducted by Malaysiakinianwar ibrahim and ahmad shabery cheek debate 150708 02The 12-hour poll which went live immediately after the debate ended at 10pm revealed that almost 96 percent of Malaysiakini readers believed that Anwar did far better than Information Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek. (see chart below)

A total of 18,684 readers had participated in the poll, of which 17,240 or 95 percent said Anwar was more convincing in his arguments.

Interestingly, while Anwar was seen as the clear winner in the debate, a majority of readers (57 percent) said he had the most rehearsed answers.

Shabery appeared to win in that department for apparently referring less on his prepared notes.

However, 90 percent of readers believed that the information minister had avoided most of the questions put by the moderator and two other panelists.

And when it comes to how the two debaters fared on a scale of 1 to 10, Anwar appeared to have outclassed Shabery.

The hour-long debate was the first time that a government minister was pitted against an opposition leader live on television.

It was so clear that Anwar was speaking like a PM, with substance, precise and professional. Shabery was no match at all, nothing new in his arguments and looked like someone very desparate grasping for straws as he could not rebut Anwar’s argument and had to resort to personal attacks.

The question of who wins who lose does not arise.

However, now we know exactly what Anwar will do if he takes over the gomen. As for Ahmad Sabery, being a Minister he cannot do much but got to defend the gomen whatever it takes. What upset me,is the personal attack embark by Sabery in the course of his arguement.

cheers.

Anwar! stop debating with kids. Orang tanya Utara dia jawab Selatan. Anyway it was pleasure to hear our future PM speak and indeed a relief to have identified that we actually have clowns in the August House.

My opinion is that Shaberry touches more on ‘historical’ happenings and to some extent made personal attacks on anwar which may be perceived as his inability to provide relavant answers to some of the questions.

Bravo Anuar,
Cool as ice – when personal attack.

Shabery – small boy still learning how to talk.
Shabery gang – The Tan Sri – shaky question like he have no confident – product of rusty mind.

Anwar gang – as confident as Anwar.
Winner – ANWAR IBRAHIM.
RAJRAMAN – piss of about Anwar because few times talking about bumiputra. So indian and chinese will dream like me as MALAYSIAN PUTRA IN MY DREAM.

Shabery delving into the past to make cheap personal attacks on Anwar is unbecoming. He even goes back to 1974 Baling demo – how low can you go? Just keep to the issue, s…!
